Common Problem:  Fading on Exterior Paint

How wonderful it is to have the Carolina Blue in our skies and the sunshine almost daily here on the Carolina coast?  It is just about one of the most beautiful places to live.  Really.  But goodness gracious does the sun do a bit of work on the exterior of our homes.  Whoa!

So what is a homeowner to do?

Fall has arrived, and it’s the perfect time to consider having the exterior of your home painted! Why? The sun is less excruciating, the humidity is lower, and overall the paint (and painters) look better!

Port City Paint works with a lot of HOAs, and builders/developers around the shore and ICW and we’ve come up with some great solutions to minimize sun fading your paint… although it’s not going to stop the fading, (because it’s the sun!) these steps can help to make the color last a little longer between painting.

We use and recommend professional grade paints by Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore.  These paints / brands are superior to box store paints, and the investment reflects as such, but so does the amount of time between repainting.

Did you know that if you don’t repaint when it’s time to paint, that you’re probably looking at an even higher price to fix it?  Think about the chipping paint outside, if you take care of it and do a refresh before that happens, in the long run you can save on pressure washing, labor to scrape and caulk, and then finally be able to prep and paint.

As a homeowner, I’ve often waited until the last minute to paint my exterior.  Mildew was creeping up the side of my deck, my paint was chipping, my stain was faded.  Had I just kept up with the maintenance, my wood would be less damaged, my house would not have been as stained, and I’m assured the painters would have been able to get in and get out much quicker.

I know the crew at Port City Paint, like I know my own family…but really, I don’t want my family at my house longer than they need to be.  I’m joking (sort of) but I hope you hear my point.  Do the work before it costs you an arm and a leg and peace and quiet.  Trust me.

Mark and his team will be in and out quickly, do an amazing job, and you won’t even know they are there.  The professionals recommend checking your exterior paint/stain at least once a year, especially on the sunnier sides of the home, and worst case?  Have Mark at Port CIty Paint come give you a free estimate.  Have a pro take a look at your home.  It’ll save you time and money in the long run.
